Which parts of the area do we reach?

We reach the whole town and the County land around it. The Census town of Castaic covers 7.3 square miles, only about 2% of the County's much larger community area, which is mostly mountains around the lake.

Castaic Lake and dam

DWR built the 425-foot dam from 1965 to 1974 for the State Water Project.

Lake Hughes Road

The 2025 Hughes Fire began here near the lake and burned 10,425 acres, mostly in the hills north of town.

Charlie and Tapia canyons

CAL FIRE starts the 2018 Charlie Fire, 3,380 acres, where the two canyon roads meet.

Hasley Canyon

A canyon the USGS maps just outside the City on County land.

Val Verde

A small community of detached houses that shares the 91384 ZIP area with the town.

Why look up the address before a new door?

Because parts of Castaic are mapped Very High fire hazard on LA County's layer, and new door work in those zones has a gap limit. About 79% of the town's land lies inside a recorded fire perimeter, led by the Nichol Fire No. 122 of 1946 and the Golden Fire of 1962. Recent big fires mostly burned the hills: the 2025 Hughes Fire began off Lake Hughes Road, and the Canyon Fire that August, west of town, destroyed 15 structures. Where the map applies, a closed door may leave no more than 1/8 inch at its edges. Tested weatherstripping, door overlap or metal flashing gets it there.

Does a fault run through Castaic?

Yes. USGS traces of the San Gabriel fault zone's Palomas section cross the Census town, and the Southern California Earthquake Data Center says the fault's only sign of Holocene surface rupture lies between Saugus and Castaic. FEMA's homebuilder guide lists excessive drift at garage fronts among repeat quake damage, calling a lightly braced attached garage front a classic weak spot, worst with living space above. That bracing belongs to the house framing, not the door. It is one reason we fasten a new door's track and jambs to solid framing rather than trim.

Homes by the lake

Yes, the town is part of our regular area, along with Val Verde and Hasley Canyon on the County side.
Start with the springs, cables and rollers. Torsion springs usually give 8 to 15 years, so original springs on a door from that decade are long past it. Rollers with open bearings need oil now and then, sealed ones do not, and a frayed lift cable should never be left in service. Our cable and roller repair page has more.
On new work in a mapped wildfire hazard area, yes, and parts of the town are mapped Very High on the County's layer. The gap around the closed door must stay at 1/8 inch or less. A worn bottom seal on an older door is worth replacing anyway; options are on our garage door seals page.
Yes; we measure the opening, hang and balance the new door and set its seals, as our garage door installation page describes.
No, because that bottom bracket holds the lift cable under the full pull of the springs, and DASMA tells anyone who is not a door technician to leave brackets, cables and their mounting points alone.

Your visit

Yes. California requires anyone servicing a home opener to test that it reverses on a rigid 2-inch object, so we run that test before leaving. If it fails, or has no battery backup, the next steps are on our opener repair page.
Close the door and look for daylight or a draft at the floor. Cracks, tears, missing pieces, hard or brittle rubber, and water or pests getting in are the other signs Clopay lists.
After we see the door, you get a written price for parts and labor, and work begins only once you agree to it.
Not the door itself so much as the wall around it, since FEMA names weak garage fronts as a repeat quake problem.
Yes. Visits run Sunday through Friday and Saturday is our day off; tell us what the door is doing and we set a time that suits you.
